How to master homemade paneer
Zero Waste Tip - How to Make Your Own Paneer!
Are you a fan of paneer/curd in your meals, but tired of dealing with plastic-packaged options? We hear you! Many store-bought paneer brands come in plastic, and it's not always easy to find a sustainable alternative. Well, we have a solution for you—make your own paneer at home! It's not only a zero-waste option but also surprisingly easy and quick, taking just 15-20 minutes. Let's dive in!
Ingredients
- 2 litres of raw/organic milk (full cream is best)
- Citric acid
How to make
- Heat the 2 litres of raw/organic milk until it boils.
- Remove the milk from heat and add approximately 1/3 teaspoon of citric acid.
- Gently stir and let it sit for a few minutes. Gradually add 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid at a time until the milk fully separates, forming solids and yellow/green whey. The speed at which you add the citric acid will affect the firmness of the curd.
- Pour the mixture into a sieve and let it sit for as long as you can resist (usually around 1 hour for us because it's hard to wait any longer!).
- After it has set, tip the curd out of the sieve and cut it into squares.
- Optionally, lightly fry the squares in ghee or coconut oil until they turn golden brown.
- Stir the paneer squares into any curry or meal of your choice. Enjoy the deliciousness!
